Greetings Walter Reed Families!
Our Great Shakeout Drill on Thursday was a successful event where we simulated scenarios that would be experienced in a major earthquake. I’m confident to report that if needed, Walter Reed is ready to provide safety and shelter to our students, staff and families.
As you know, our teachers work hard every day to help our students reach their full potential. However, because L.A. Unified has not yet reached an agreement on a new contract, members of United Teachers Los Angeles may take strike action. L.A. Unified has created a resource guide for families, which is posted at lausd.net and on our school website, to help parents and students prepare for a possible work stoppage. A copy is included below. L.A. Unified will continue working to find solutions that take into account our economic realities, as well as our students’ needs.
Parents, this Thursday, October 25, are parent conferences from 5:30 – 7:30 PM. This is an open window of time to engage in student-led conferences where your child can show you their portfolio of work and you can check in with their teacher. Please note that should you wish to have a private or longer conference, then we ask that you please contact the teacher to schedule a meeting. You may call our main office to obtain contact information for the teachers. In addition, at 5:00 PM there will be a 6th and 7th grade parent/student meeting in the auditorium presented by the counselors.
Friday, October 26, is a minimum day with a 12:37 dismissal followed by Hallowreed, sponsored by the Media Arts & Technology Academy, from 1 – 7 PM. This has become a favorite annual event for our community and we look forward to a fun time!
We look forward to seeing you soon, and remember, I NEVER fail; I either succeed or I learn.
